Rooting Action in Christian Faith:
A Conversation and Reception with Rev. Alan Storey

3:45-4:45pm

Weyerhaeuser Chapel at Macalester College

Sponsored by the Macalester Campus Ministry/Chaplain’s Office. Open to people of different faith communities on campus as well as the wider chaplaincy community in the Twin Cities.

Please RSVP here by April 3, 2026

For decades, Reverend Alan Storey has stood at the intersection of prayer and protest in South Africa — pastoring congregations, challenging injustice, and helping faith communities find their voice in moments of profound social change. Formed in the long shadow of apartheid and seasoned through ongoing struggles for economic and racial justice, Alan brings a rare blend of pastoral depth, prophetic courage, and grounded hope.  What might his experience teach us as people of faith and faith leaders in the Minnesota of 2026? Join us for a space of listening and thoughtful discussion as Reverend Storey shares wisdom and insight from his years of activism and prayer — and helps us discern the lessons they hold for our own communities today.

Harry Emerson Fosdick (1878-1969), the founding minister of Riverside Church in New York City, was regarded by Martin Luther King, Jr., as ‘‘the greatest preacher of this century.” One of liberal Protestantism’s most influential voices, Fosdick was a proponent of ecumenical Christianity, pacifism, and civil rights, whose radio sermons and writings reached millions.

Since 2016, Augsburg Campus Ministry has hosted the Fosdick Lecture on Preaching. Gifted preachers and storytellers have shared their insights on preaching and topics important to them. Alan Storey will offer the 2026 Fosdick Lecture on the topic "Preaching for Good."

The Twin Cities are home to numerous immigrant communities who have needed to flee harsh circumstances in their homeland to find peace and safety here. The relationships that have developed have been rich, rewarding, and beneficial to all. The focus of the current administration has created fear and chaos for many, and the field of social work is playing a pivotal role to support at-risk communities in a variety of ways. This event can be a place for participants to gather and further identify the ways in which we can fulfill our mission to enhance human well being with immigrant communities.

Open only to Augsburg University's BSW and MSW students, plus members of the department and Augsburg students. For information, contact: Susan Carlin: carlins@augsburg.edu
